SIP Payphone 1970 (IT)

SIP Payphone 1970 is a hero prop inspired by Italian public payphones from the late 1970s to early 1980s, reimagined with a subtle noir/crime narrative.
Created as a portfolio piece, the focus was on material credibility and environmental storytelling. A significant part of the process involved historical research, including real-world references for materials and construction methods used at the time. I also investigated the original manufacturer of this specific phone model to maintain authenticity.
Instead of typical graffiti, I used stickers, engravings, and coins to tell small stories and ground the prop in a believable urban context.
Modeling: Low and high poly in Blender, with added detail sculpted in ZBrush (scratches, dents, damage).
Research: Based on real vintage payphones (mainly SIP/Urmet models), including stickers, typography, decals, and typical wear and tear patterns.
UVs: Efficient UV layout using Packmaster 3, optimized for a UDIM workflow with priority on key visible areas.
Baking: High poly and sculpt baking in Substance 3D Painter.
Texturing: Layered workflow focusing on nuanced roughness, metal wear, and dirt accumulation. Custom stickers and engravings were added to enhance narrative and believability.
LookDev: Lighting and rendering done in Marmoset Toolbag, tailored to emphasize surface detail (chipped paint, worn plastic, oxidized metal).
Tris count: 35.000
